S&P/TSX Composite Rises on Friday Morning as U.S. Markets Gain

TORONTO — The main stock index in Canada saw broad-based gains on Friday during late-morning trading, signaling a positive market trend. The S&P/TSX composite index increased by 122.10 points, reaching a level of 25,020.13.

In the neighboring United States, stock markets also experienced rises. The Dow Jones industrial average was up by 171.70 points, now standing at 42,563.97. Similarly, the S&P 500 index climbed 39.27 points to reach 5,907.82, and the Nasdaq composite saw an increase of 172.69 points, landing at 19,453.49.

Trading activity affected the Canadian dollar, which was valued at 69.28 cents against the U.S. dollar, a slight decrease from 69.36 cents the previous day.

In the commodities market, the price of crude oil for February rose by 65 cents, reaching US$73.78 per barrel. Conversely, the February natural gas contract saw a decrease of 28 cents, dropping to US$3.38 per mmBTU.

As for precious metals, the February gold contract fell by US$10.70, now priced at US$2,658.30 per ounce. Meanwhile, the March copper contract experienced a minor increase of four cents, bringing it to US$4.06 per pound.
