Nvidia and Broadcom Collaborate with Intel on Chip Testing

Published March 4, 2025

Nvidia and Broadcom are currently conducting manufacturing tests with Intel, according to two sources familiar with the situation. This collaboration highlights an early confidence in Intel's advanced production capabilities, despite the company's recent struggles.

The tests, which have not been reported until now, suggest that these chip designers are moving closer to a significant decision. They are evaluating whether to invest hundreds of millions of dollars in manufacturing contracts with Intel.

If Nvidia and Broadcom decide to proceed with these contracts, it could lead to a substantial revenue boost for Intel's contract manufacturing division. This area of Intel's business has faced numerous delays and has yet to secure a major customer in the chip design sector.

Additionally, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is also considering if Intel's 18A manufacturing process aligns with its own requirements. However, it is not clear if AMD has sent any test chips through Intel's facilities. AMD has chosen not to comment on the matter.

An Intel representative stated, "We don’t comment on specific customers but continue to see strong interest and engagement on Intel 18A across our ecosystem."

The tests conducted by Nvidia and Broadcom utilize Intel’s advanced 18A process. This process incorporates a range of technologies developed over the years, designed to manufacture sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) processors and other complex chips.
