Broadcom Enhances VMware vDefend: Elevating Zero Trust Defense

Published March 26, 2025

Broadcom Inc. (NASDAQ: AVGO) announced significant improvements to VMware vDefend this week. These enhancements aim to bolster security capabilities, streamline lifecycle management, and improve scalability for users operating under VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF).

The upgrades to vDefend are designed specifically to aid organizations in deploying VCF more rapidly, enhancing security processes, and managing both critical and non-critical applications more effectively.

A key highlight is that VMware vDefend has recently received an AAA rating for Advanced Threat Prevention from SE Labs’ Advanced Security Test Report, underscoring its efficacy in cybersecurity.

Furthermore, a Total Economic Impact (TEI) study conducted by Forrester Consulting and commissioned by Broadcom revealed compelling statistics for organizations utilizing VMware vDefend. The study found that these organizations experienced a 40% decline in the risk of cyber breaches, a 25% reduction in security operation costs, and successfully avoided a 12% increase in cyber insurance premiums.

Umesh Mahajan, who serves as vice president and general manager of the Application Networking and Security Division at Broadcom, stated, “VMware vDefend simplifies how organizations achieve zero trust and private cloud security goals by reducing complexity and providing a comprehensive lateral security implementation.”

He further noted that the recent innovations in vDefend enhance operational efficiency. This is achieved by delivering real-time security assessments, offering a next-generation security services platform aimed at simplifying operations, and implementing micro-segmentation as code for even better security management.

On a related note, Broadcom also disclosed the expansion of its leading 200G/lane DSP PHY portfolio with the rollout of the Sian3 and Sian2M.
