The Trio of Stocks on My Radar for the Next Market Downturn

Published November 19, 2023

Investing during a market crash can be an opportune moment for long-term gains. When stock prices plummet, investors often get a chance to pick up high-quality stocks at bargain prices. Reflecting on past market downturns, there are three stocks that stand out to me as prime candidates for acquisition if another crash occurs: Microsoft Corporation MSFT, Visa Inc. V, and Walmart Inc. WMT. I might have missed their optimal prices in previous market corrections, but I am determined not to overlook the potential they offer if another downturn materializes.

Microsoft Corporation MSFT

As a behemoth in the technology sector, MSFT has a proven track record of innovation and resilience. With a diverse portfolio that includes the Windows operating systems, the Office suite, and the cloud-computing platform Azure, MSFT is embedded in both consumer and enterprise markets worldwide. The company has maintained a steady growth trajectory, evidenced by its climb to the No. 21 spot in the Fortune 500 rankings for 2020, and leading the pack as the world's largest software maker by revenue as of 2016. Any substantial dip in the stock's price would make MSFT an enticing addition to my investment portfolio.

Visa Inc. V

The financial services titan, V, operates a vast network driving global electronic funds transfers via its branded credit, debit, and prepaid cards. V is synonymous with payment processing and remains a key player in the financial technology industry. Its strong market position and consistent performance render it a stable investment. The company’s stock tends to be resilient in volatile markets, and a market crash could present a rare opportunity to acquire V shares at a discount.

Walmart Inc. WMT

Walmart's massive retail and grocery presence has fortified its status as a key player in the consumer staples sector. With a vast network of physical stores along with a growing e-commerce footprint, WMT stands as a cornerstone in the American economy. When markets falter, retailers like Walmart often prove resilient due to the consistent demand for everyday items. As the owner of Sam’s Club retail warehouses and an emphasis on affordability, WMT provides defensive stability during economic uncertainty. A market crash could be the ideal circumstance to secure shares of this retail giant at a favorable price point.
