Wall Street continued its downturn on Tuesday, with major indices closing lower. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped by 1.1%, settling at 41,433.48, while the S&P 500 saw a decline of 0.75%, finishing at 5,572.07. The Nasdaq also experienced a slight decrease, falling nearly 0.2% to close at 17,436.10.
Amid this market slump, several stocks garnered significant attention from investors:
XPeng Inc. (XPEV)
XPeng's stock price surged by 14.77%, finishing at $26.34. Throughout the day, shares reached an intraday high of $27.16 and dipped to a low of $25.25. Over the past year, the stock has fluctuated between $6.55 and $27.16. This positive movement was largely attributed to the company’s announcement of exploring a major investment in humanoid robots, potentially amounting to $13.8 billion.
Hesai Group (HSAI)
Meanwhile, Hesai Group saw its shares skyrocket by 50.41% to close at $24.08, following the announcement of a multi-year contract with Mercedes-Benz to provide Lidar sensors. The stock hit an intraday peak of $24.18, with a low of $18.32, marking a significant increase from its 52-week low of $3.52.
Kohl’s Corp. (KSS)
On the downside, Kohl’s shares plummeted by 24.07%, ending the day at $9.15. The stock traded between a high of $10.56 and a low of $8.75 during the session. Kohl’s has seen its price fluctuate from a high of $29.60 to a low of $8.75 over the past year. The decline came after the company reported a challenging environment for consumers, with the CEO noting that shoppers are increasingly looking for value in their purchases.
Groupon Inc. (GRPN)
Groupon shares decreased slightly by 0.61%, closing at $9.77. The stock had an intraday high and low of $9.98 and $9.21, respectively. Over the past year, shares ranged from a high of $19.56 to a low of $7.76. Groupon's fourth-quarter revenue hit $130.38 million, beating expectations of $127.74 million, but this did not provide enough momentum to avoid a downturn in stock price.
Tesla Inc. (TSLA)
In contrast, Tesla's stock rose by 3.79% to end at $230.58. The stock's highest and lowest points for the day were $237.06 and $217.02, respectively. Over the last year, Tesla shares have reached a high of $488.54 and a low of $138.80. The increase in Tesla's value coincided with President Donald Trump hosting a private car show at the White House featuring only Tesla vehicles, providing a boost to investor enthusiasm.
